Table top Easel or French Easel

If you have one or want use one bring it. I work mostly on a drafting table at home.  When I’m in class I use a regular table. This is up to you, whatever works for you.

Canvas

If you have the type of canvas you already like you can use that. In general for  the class we will be using 12 x 16 canvas pads. I use a smooth drawing board a little larger than my canvas. Clips and tape to hold it on. You can use regular canvas if you wish.

Brushes

I use Robert Simmons, Grumbacher and Winsor Newton  brands.

If you already have some you can use them. Most brushes that are used for oil are suitable for acrylic. I use mostly hog hair filberts. Flats, brights, round bristle (hog hair) or bristle blends are great. I do NOT recommend Synthetic bristle Acrylic Brushes  for acrylic painting. They don't seem to last very long and for me they are hard to work with. Sable brushes are good for detail work, but fine, expensive sables are a waste of money. Acrylic is hard on brushes, so I use the cheaper grades. Of course you should try different kinds to see what you like best If you take care of your brushes they will last you a life time.  Use a conditioning brush cleaner.

Polymer Gloss or Matte Medium

You will also need a medium size water jar (plastic), a plastic fine spray bottle and paper towels.

Palette that has an airtight lid works well. This way your paints won’t dry out when you’re not using them.
